Dr. Papageorgiou and her entire staff would like to wish you and yours a very Happy and Healthy New Year! We’d also like to take this opportunity to send out a friendly reminder: now is the perfect time to schedule your first dental checkup for the year. The American Dental Association recommends that everyone visit the dentist twice yearly, so why not start your new year off right with an all-important dental cleaning and exam?

For the littlest members of your family, Dr. Papageorgiou begins seeing children as young as two years old. This is the perfect age to begin bringing your child to see the dentist, because we want to monitor their oral health and build a lifelong pattern of seeing the dentist regularly. At first, of course, their appointments will be brief—just long enough to count, clean and examine their teeth. As they mature, we’ll be able to expand the appointment to include education about brushing and flossing, routine digital x-rays to find hidden tooth decay and fluoride treatments and dental sealants to strengthen and protect their teeth.

Dental Care with the Dentist Natick, MA, Trusts

For teens and adults, Papageorgiou Dental Associates provides a comprehensive dental checkup. This includes cleaning and polishing your teeth as well as an assessment of the health of your teeth and gums. The dentist and one of our skilled hygienists will check each one of your teeth for signs of decay; this may include x-rays, as well. The hygienist will measure the small gum pockets around your teeth with a probe. A depth of more than three millimeters can be a sign of gum disease, a commonly diagnosed oral health condition that we treat in our office with periodontal therapy.

The exam continues with a check for signs of bruxism—teeth grinding and clenching—TMJ (temporomandibular joint) dysfunction and oral cancer. Worn and uneven teeth can result from bruxism, and bruxism can be a sign of TMJ, a condition marked by jaw pain. We offer TMJ therapy to relieve the pain and other bothersome symptoms. During an oral cancer screening, we look carefully at the floor and roof of your mouth as well as the insides of your cheeks to find a sore or lump that may be concerning. Oral cancer is often treatable and curable when found early.
